Dan Matheson
I am the Director of the University of Iowa Sport & Recreation Management (B.S./M.A.) program and an Associate Professor of Instruction in the program. I also teach Sports Law in the UI College of Law. In 2017, I was named the Dean's Distinguished Lecturer in the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences. In 2016, I received the University’s highest teaching honor, the President and Provost Award for Teaching Excellence. Prior to joining the Iowa faculty, I worked as an NCAA Associate Director of Enforcement and as the New York Yankees Director of Baseball Operations. My service to the university includes chairing the Presidential Committee on Athletics, which is an advisory board to the Athletics Department. I am frequently asked to provide commentary during media coverage of sport industry issues, and my contributions have appeared in such media outlets as ESPN’s “Outside the Lines,” in the New York Times, on CollegeAD.com, and on SiriusXM’s “College Sports Nation.” I serve as a keynote speaker, panelist, and presenter in a variety of settings and am always interested in being contacted about such opportunities.
