I joined the University of Iowa faculty in the Sport and Recreation Management program after spending the first 15 years of my career working for the New York Yankees and the NCAA.  I was fortunate to experience many career highlights in my first two career stops, including working for George Steinbrenner as a member of four World Series championship teams, but some of my most satisfying career moments have involved seeing my former students achieve their career goals. 

 

At this stage of my life and career, I find great personal satisfaction in helping young people break into the competitive sport industry as I did many years ago. In my teaching and other service to the university, I place an emphasis on connecting students with sport industry professionals for hands-on experiences with real projects whenever possible. (See my teaching page and blog for specifics on organizations we have collaborated with for experiential learning opportunities.)

 

I became Director of the Sport and Recreation Management program in August 2016, began teaching in the College of Law in 2019, and I also serve as chair of the University of Iowa Presidential Committee on Athletics, which is the advisory committee to the Athletics Department.  I embrace these new challenges and the opportunities they offer to engage further in strategic planning for the academic program, teaching sports law at a higher level, and service to the Athletics Department and its student-athletes.
